Community Calls to Action

What is a "Call to Action"?

"CALLS to Action" are moments where writing and literacy can be crucial to creating positive change in your community. We can support a wide range of projects-- letter-writing campaigns, community storytelling, and developing surveys or communications,  to more direct interventions such as supporting economic actions, crafting petitions, and more!

Hand Off Our Maps:  Stop Gerrymandering in Indiana Now!

Governor Mike Braun has called a special session of the Indiana General Assembly to redistrict the state in a way that will massively disenfranchise the Central Indiana community. The plan would further gerrymander our state, silencing the voice of 40% of Hoosiers. Our community is building a grassroots movement to respond to this authoritarian and antidemocratic move. Sign the AFL-CIO petition and join the targeted boycott of non-local businesses and strategic email campaign to let lawmakers know that Hoosiers won't tolerate their power grab.

Neighbors Helping Neighbors:
Build a Small Mutual Aid Community in One Day

More and more, the average person has become disconnected from their neighbors and friends, and as a result community and the support that it can provide us has significantly eroded. Only 25% of Americans know all or most of their neighbors, and less than half see their friends during the average week. The solution is to build intentional community with your neighbors that creates tangible social and material benefit to keep those relationships thriving.

Historically, communities relied on each other much more. There was no need for every neighbor to own a piece of lawn equipment, because it could be shared among the community. The strain on parents was much less, because the community was trusted to help look after and nurture them. Knowledge, meals, and resources were regularly shared, and these relationships created a built-in support system when a member fell on hard times.

You can have this world back. You can save money, work and laugh with your community, share resources and connections, and increase your community's ability to coordinate toward shared goals. Our test community has seen the benefits of this-- saving one member upwards of $10,000 in less than a year, quadrupling frequency of interactions, and supporting each other more effectively through difficult times. The community was even able to acquire 11 laying chickens for sharing eggs, two beehives for sharing honey, and build 250 sq feet of garden beds-- all for free and through collaboration, sharing of connections and resources, and shared labor.

To start your own mutual aid group, you will need nothing more than to reach out to your community, find a shared time, and walk through the provided documents below. There is a walk-through,  a "Shared Assets" sheet, and a non-legally binding pact to affirm your commitment to each other.
